Unlock the apartment market, one roof every resident

Become a certified Allume partner to unlock the multi-residential solar PV market. Our SolShare technology allows a single rooftop solar installation to share energy across multiple flats.

New build flat development in Cardiff

Why UK installers are using SolShare

The UK solar PV market is evolving.

Traditional rooftop solar for apartment blocks required individual inverters for every flat, a logistical and financial "nightmare" regarding cable runs and plant room space.

Allume’s SolShare technology changes the game by connecting multiple flats to a single rooftop PV array. It reduces design complexity and helps meet regulatory standards, without impacting building aesthetics.

Increased funding for social housing installations

SolShare unlocks increased funding for solar and battery projects.

"We installed just 3 inverters with 3 SolShares to serve 35 properties. If it wasn’t for Allume, we couldn’t have done it, there simplywasn’t space to fit 35 inverters."

“The SolShare system seems to be a much fairer solution as the energy generated by the building can be shared equally to help our residents to keep their electricity costs down rather than going back to the grid.”

How SolShare scales solar PV for apartments?

SolShare is the world’s only hardware for connecting multiple flats to a single rooftop PV array. Classed as a direct connection of solar to flats, achieving maximum SAP score uplift.

Real-world results

“Because the system shares free solar energy across the whole building, everyone saves more on bills than if we just had lots of individual little solar systems on the roof, each feeding one flat each.”

Adam Tilford, Sustainability Manager, UK

“Scott Court is more than just a retrofit; it’s a blueprint for the future of socially responsible, sustainable housing.”

David Conway, Head of Asset Management, Hillcrest, Scotland

“It’s not just about putting shiny new things on a building, but the fact that they improve that person’s life."

Malcolm Davies, Welsh Government, Wales

“One of our residents reported that her energy bill was £100 less than this same time last year. That's a serious result!””

Frequently asked questions

Find quick answers about SolShare, the world’s first technology for sharing rooftop solar in UK flats.
Does SolShare qualify for SAP 10.2 solar PV credits?

Yes. SolShare is classed as a direct connection of solar PV to flats. It qualifies for SAP 10.2 PV credits, typically adding 5-15 SAP points to each flat, making it a leading solution for meeting UK building regulations.

Does SolShare increase a flat's EPC rating?

Yes. By adding 5-20 SAP points, SolShare frequently increases a flat’s EPC band by at least one rating (e.g., Band C to B), helping landlords meet MEES standards and net-zero targets.

Can the Landlord supply be connected to SolShare?

Yes. Any separately metered connection, including the landlord’s communal supply, can be integrated. This allows solar to power shared services like lifts and hallway lighting before distributing the remainder to residents.

What is the warranty on a SolShare device?
SolShare comes with an industry-standard 10-year warranty. Our hardware is designed for long-term reliability in UK multi-unit developments.
Can batteries be used with a SolShare system?

Communal DC-coupled batteries with SolShare may be possible depending on the specific site layout.

If you are considering a battery installation, you must inform Allume via uk.info@allumeenergy.com to discuss the project and confirm technical feasibility for the proposed site.

There are many site variables that influence how well-suited a site is for battery storage, and which battery type is best.

Without a discussion with the Allume team, there is a significant risk to the success and functionality of the installation.

What is the minimum number of apartments suitable for SolShare?

Typically, SolShare is optimised for buildings with 6 or more units. However, we review every enquiry to determine if our shared solar technology is the right fit for your specific project.

If the system exports energy, who receives the payment?

SolShare ensures solar is delivered to residents when they are using power to maximise savings. Any exported energy is entitled to a smart export guarantee payment. An MCS certificate must be issued for each connected flat, which can then be used to apply for SEG through the customers chosen energy supplier.

Do residents have to join a specific electricity retailer?

No. Residents maintain freedom of choice and can stay with any UK energy supplier. They also keep all market protections and benefits provided to vulnerable electricity customers.

What funding is available for SolShare?

SolShare qualifies for major UK grants, including the Warm Homes Plan in England, Optimised RetroFit Programme (ORP) in Wales and Social Housing Net Zero Heat Fund in Scotland and the Local Power Plan.

Contact us for guidance on securing solar funding.

What are the typical energy savings?

On average, SolShare achieves a 40% reduction in grid energy usage. Savings can increase further with the addition of shared battery storage and smart energy management.

Is there a monitoring portal?
Yes. The SolCentre monitoring portal provides energy and bill savings data from site to flat level. This transparency is often a requirement for Warm Homes and other social housing initiatives. These metrics shows measurable impact for Government reporting, without manual admin.
