About us
Allume is a global company with headquarters in the UK and Australia. Our vision is a world where everyone can access clean, affordable energy from the sun.
Before we started in the UK, one in five British homes—five million in total—living in low and medium-rise apartment buildings had no way to enjoy the benefits of solar energy.
We didn’t think this was fair, so we developed SolShare; this world-first cleantech breaks down the technical and ownership barriers that have historically prevented apartment residents from accessing cheaper and cleaner energy.

Our story
Born in Australia
Allume was established in 2015.
Our founder and CEO, Cameron Knox, started with a simple question: why can’t apartment residents access rooftop solar?
After years of research and development, we created SolShare – our world-first, Australian-made technology that allows a single rooftop solar system to be connected to multiple apartments, enabling fair energy sharing.
Taking SolShare global
The challenge of fair access to clean energy wasn't unique to Australia, it was a global problem in search of a solution.
After years of driving Allume’s success in Australia, Jack Taylor, General Manager of Europe, relocated from Melbourne to London to spearhead our international expansion, starting with the UK.
First installation on new build developments
Working alongside property developers and M&E consultants, we achieved our first new build roll-outs in 2022. By integrating SolShare, we helped partners navigate the new SAP 10.2 regulations, significantly boosting SAP points and EPC ratings for apartment buildings.
First installation with batteries
In partnership with the Welsh Government and Wales & West Housing, we completed the UK’s first SolShare installation for the social housing sector at Odet Court, Cardiff with batteries.
This project connected 24 flats to a single rooftop solar system paired with battery storage. By utilising SolShare’s "dynamic sharing" technology, the installation reduced equipment costs by 25% and hardware footprint significantly, while providing residents with enough clean energy to cover up to 75% of their electricity demand. This project now serves as a blueprint for tackling fuel poverty through innovative, scalable retrofits across the UK.
Partnership between Allume and E.ON
Allume closed a £4 million strategic investment from E.ON UK. This marked a pivotal moment, paving the way for millions more people in the UK to access the benefits of solar energy, enjoy lower bills, and contribute to a greener future.
Biggest milestones yet!
April marked a major milestone as we celebrated connecting 10,000 apartments to shared solar.
Alongside this growth, we now enable increased funding to accelerate the rollout of battery storage for social housing. This ensures that the benefits of SolShare reach the communities that need them most, further cementing our commitment to ending fuel poverty through innovation.
In the UK, we have delivered thousands of projects with private developers, social housing providers and M&E consultants, helping to decarbonise UK homes at scale and pace.
